The Tea Party came up short in its latest test against an incumbent Republican, as Orrin Hatch buried Dan Liljenquist by 34 points in the Utah Republican Primary. The 78-year-old Hatch is seeking his seventh term as a Senator.

Another survivor is Democrat Charlie Rangel, who topped a crowded field in a newly formed New York Congressional district. Many thought Rangel, who was censured by the House in 2010 for various ethics violations, would be in trouble in the primary, but he managed to slip past his top opponent, Adriano Espaillat by five points.

Here’s more speculation about the Romney Veep pick, with a list that seems pretty right on to me.

Kaiser, Good veep article.  I agree, it seems pretty acurate.

Though not my first choice, Kyl is actually a very interesting possibility.
Since he is an old fart (69 or 70?), he would not be considered “next in line”, and would thus not interfere with what should be a very interesting GOP primary in 2020 (hoping and assuming that one is not necessary in 2012).

All in all, though, I’d still prefer one of our young guns – Jindal, Ryan, Rubio, or Ayotte.

No surprise about Rangle.  Most of his supporters still think O.J. was innocent.  There is never a surprise when stupid does as stupid is.And, no surprise at the “Hatch Act” continuing.  Nobody really expected a revolution in Utah. But Rep. John Sullivan, R-Okla., became the ninth Congressional incumbent to lose a primary Tuesday night.  Sullivan faced tea party favorite Jim Bridenstine in the congressional district that includes Tulsa.  A former Navy pilot, Bridenstine claimed the five-term lawmaker was out of touch, voted to raise the debt ceiling and was in favor of “government takeovers.”Speaking as another Tea Party candidate who beat a two-term incumbent commissioner here in Texas last month, the Tea Party is still alive and doing very well.  We can’t win ‘em all, but we are winning a good share and, even in those we lose, we help shape a more conservative Republican Party.

I was glad to see Bridenstine win last night.
