Trumka shuns Democrats in favor of a grass roots Labor Party

A bad sign for Obama:

In a huge public blow to the electoral fortunes of both President Obama and the Democratic Party, the president of the AFL-CIO said Thursday that organized labor is preparing to ditch Democrats and go it alone in building up its own grassroots structure.

Specifically, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told reporters that the nation’s largest labor federation will scale back their involvement with the Democratic Party in advance of the 2012 elections.

So is this the start of a Labor Party or is this simply a ploy to force the Democratic Party to fall in line?

    Couldn’t agree more with the article and Brian’s wise observation! Glad that people are WAKING up to see what a Socialist-in-Charge we have occupying the White House! Bring on 2012, and a Conservative to help get America back on track!

    It is actually a great move for any union to not be so completely in the tank to one political party as doing so eliminates their ability to influence a broader political spectrum. The unions are so much in the pockets of the Dems that Republican leaders do not need to listen to them or even give them the time of day as the union support, or lack of, is a forgone conclusion. If unions would broaden their base of support they would find more politicians willing to address their concerns. As it is now, the GOP wins without the unions and the unions are finding themselves being further marginalized. Which, of course, I am glad to see.
