Presidential elections are won in the swing states, everyone knows that. Florida chadded its way into the George W. Bush column in 2000, Ohio did the same in 2004. Flip either one of these states, and we could be looking at very different results to those elections.

Pennsylvania has long been considered one of the “purple” states in Presidential elections, but the reality is that it has not voted for a Republican since Dubbya’s daddy, Bush 41 in 1988. But several recent polls, including one released by Qunnipiac University, has President Barack Obama trailing presumed GOP front-runner Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, who is not quite a front-runner.

Something that does not bode well for Obama is the economic performance in swing states such as Pennsylvania and Ohio, both of which went Obama’s way in 2008.

Buckle up swing states, its going to be a bumpy ride!
