Hat tip to Alaina for forwarding this article to us, it is good, succinct look at Perry and some of his strengths and weaknesses.

Here’s a little snippet:

Simple, the man has a nose for winning built into his leading-man looks. Some might deride him as Gov. Good Hair, but he’s used that mane and handsome face to his advantage, just as Ronald Reagan did.

Perry’s not too popular on PD, but a lot of pundits think he has a chance to make a significant impact in 2012.

Just the other day, a sizable group of Texans went down to the state capitol in reaction to legislation Rick Perry and his cronies rewrote a bill that would constrain TSA’s abusive groping policies, turning it into one that endorses it.

I’m sure it’s just a Texas thing to get upset like this, because y’all don’t seem to mind much, the TSA’s invasion of your very person in the name of keeping us all safe, right?

Anyway, here’s how they show their love of Perry and his ilk, down where they still care about such things as Liberty: http://youtu.be/E4eTldMDdcA

      I’m not understanding your point…

The video you linked shows Texans protesting the killing of the TSA bill, then you say we don’t seem to mind, then you say “down where they still care about such things as Liberty”?

      • Promise Kept

Sorry, Alaina, that I couldn’t reply sooner, but here goes with your question.

I’ll start with the middle, “then you say we don’t seem to mind.” I’ll admit to not being a faithful PD reader, and commenter respectively, but I’ve NEVER seen a more glaring issue of bipartisan contempt than what we all hear weekly, almost daily sometimes, of yet ANOTHER, incredibly egregious action by some TSA custodian against an American of good faith and good will, simply for trying to travel peacefully from point A to B.

Well, fool us once, and then twice, by these same executive and legislative branch bureaucrats, and I have to wonder about this sites relative silence on the TSA’s presumed authority nationwide.

I clicked on the TSA link in the right hand column, and found NOTHING that justified this link even being there. NO one here seems to care about it, so why post a thread to see how little this bothers anyone here enough to post a substantive thread, or offer a passionate reply, to such an open assault on Liberty.

Texans, per capita, seem to care more about Liberty than most folks in other states, BUT I truly hope to find that passion more among the Texans here at the PD. Am I hoping for too much?

The Texas legislature did not kill the bill. Rather, they essentially reversed themselves to state the opposite of their bill from a few weeks ago, Their original anti-groping bill was against the TSA’s criminal policies and procedures. That bill had passed the State of Texas House, almost unanimously, but was quietly contravened by Lt. Gov. Dewhurst, along with a compliant State Senate; after the TSA threatened that it might not be able to allow some or all flights to fly from Texas, without their “safety” approval.

I’m with Troy on this one… Romney and Perry are the 2 people that I can guarantee won’t get my vote in the primaries.

Why, you ask? Because I have looked closely at their records as Governor. Romney’s rhetoric does not match his record and Perry is either a crook or an idiot.

  • Gary Russell

    I’m undecided about Perry.

But, I’m giving him a very strong look.

While I respect the opinions that our resident Texans have offered on him, I’m really not seeing anything that’s a deal breaker for me. A few minor issues, yes, but certainly fewer than I see in any other current candidate.

I AM seeing a lot of positives in him, however.
Would DEFINITELY suppport him over Romney.

Is the deficit important to you?

Texas has one of the worst deficits in the country at a projected $27B. If he can’t manage his own state’s budget, how is he going balance our federal budget?

    • Whodat

      A land grab is not a “deal-breaker”?

Near 50% increase in spending under his terms – not a deal-breaker?

Can I interest you in a bridge I own in Brooklyn? I can’t find the title right now, but with a down-payment…

  • Troy La Mana

It’s those of you who support Romney that are basing your support off of emotion and personality conflict rather then reason.

    • pdiddy

convenient that you didn’t answer the question

  • Troy La Mana

I don’t support a candidate that changes his mind on a topic to suit the voter climate of the day. That is only logical and has nothing to do with emotion. Too often people vote based on emotion and not the facts laid in front of their faces.

You know, the “have to support so and so or else you’ll have another four years of Obama” The only think I have to do is support who I feel will best uphold the Constitution.

  • Jacosta

PDiddy – Troy doesn’t operate off of logic…his views and opinions are based off emotion and personality-conflict rather than reason.

    • Joe W

No he is just saying Romney is a chump! I agree sure people change the mind from time to time, but this guy changes it every other day based on political pressure. He has zero personal convictions. If he thought he could win as a Dem. He would run as a Dem. I find him not only a Rich daddy’s little boy but a bit repulsive. He doesn’t represent hard working Amaericans.

  • Troy La Mana

I would support an Anybody But Romney ticket. Perry isn’t off my radar just yet but West isn’t going to run.

    • pdiddy

you would support huntsman over romney? rudy over romney? you’re dangerous to intelligence

  • Jacosta

I would support a Perry/Romney, Perry/West or Romney/Perry ticket as our best combination to defeat Obama!!!
