I’m stunned no one has posted on this yet. What’s your take on Obama’s decision not to release the Osama death photo?

Leno had my favorite observation in a monologue, “I don’t care about seeing the photos of OBL AFTER he was shot, I want to see a picture of what he looked like just the second BEFORE he was shot – when he realized that the end was there, a SEAL with a gun.”

Much better picture, I would think.

I’m not buying any of their excuses. (Excuses are like belly buttons: we all have them, and I don’t want to see yours).

The Muslims that hate us, hate us. This won’t change that.

American tender sensibilites will not be offended. We’ve see worse on cable TV. Not to mention we saw Sadam Hussein hanged on TV. The photos of Udi and Kudi Hussien (not pretty) and other war criminals of the past (Nuremberg defendants hanging from the gallows comes to mind). And the photos of the other victims have been released, (yes they are horrible), why not OBL?

This only adds fuel to the conspiracy fire. (Yes, there are those nutters that will refuse to believe anything, but still).

I think they will release the photos when it’s politically favorable to them.

Just quit listening to “carnival barkers” Mr President and release the photos so we can get on with your ruining of the country.

Clearly: do not release it. As someone said, Obama’s first responsibility is not to fulfill the personal feelings of satisfaction, revenge, what ever might be the right english word. He has also to consider the American soldiers, businesspeople, expats, travellers all over the world. And they would NOT live safer of an obviously cruel and thus emotionalizing photo goes around the world press.

Leave it as it is. OBL is dead. That is a good thing. Period. Who doubts about it, would continue doubting, when the photo was released. pretty easy to fake something like that.

I’ll try to remove my partisan glasses for a minute.

If this were GW Bush what would I be saying?

As a citizen I do believe I have earned the right to see the photo and I want to see the photo. But, for Obamam he has a greater responsibility than fullfilling the desires of Brian H in Houston Texas. He has to act upon the what is in the best interest of the nation and his troops and his people on the front lines. If that means falling poll numbers, so be it.

The problem here is that this administration has time and time again displayed utter incompetence. So, I am left to ponder. Is not releasing the photo an act of leadership and courage in the face og glaring opposition, or, is it just another example of this administrations stupidity.

Partisan glasses are now back on.

Just think of the cottage industry of t-shirts, coffee mugs, and other assorted swag that is being held up by The One’s newly found sensitivity to all things gruesome.

As I said to my other Forum on this topic on May 3rd:

“They have pics of the corpse. To quote Maggie in summer ’90, “Don’t go wobbly on me now!”

Release the pics. That’s O’s next test, his next obstacle in the political game of Chutes and Ladders.”

The previous posters have all made excellent points. I’d add this one additional thought:

To those inclined to think this way about Obama and his Administration, not releasing the photos simply reinforces his “soft” image, his lack of toughness. I think the non-release will prove to be a slide down the approval chute.

I don’t see any upside at all. A photo is going to provide any more closure to you than simply knowing he’s dead? If he weren’t dead we would have heard a nananeebooboo tape by now from UBL. There is no upside at all. I don’t agree with BHO very often, but on this he’s right. I think the people like Palin disagreeing are just professional contrarians.

  • Stephen

It’s purely political. If he releases the photos now, it will do the following:
    1. Silence Conspirators (+1 point)
    2. Make people angry at Obama (-1 point)

If he waits and releases it in a week or a month, after he is pressured by the supposedly crazy, racist, obama-hating white republicans, this will happen:
    1. Redirect anger toward republicans (+1 point)
    2. Cast republicans as crazy, racist conspiracy theorists (+1 point)
    3. Silence conspiracy theorists (+1 point)

The points will win out, if he releases now, he will score net zero political points. If he waits a week or a month until he is pressured to do so, he’ll score +3 political points.

  • Joe W

    Don’t show the pictures.
I’m sure if they show them it will only create more hate for America and more conspiracies by Americans. The last thing we need in this country is more war. This dictator cost us 2 Trillion and 5000 US soldiers death.

  • Alaina

This is a tough one. Personally, I’m indifferent, but lean toward release it if it will give people closure. That said, I won’t look at it if it’s released… I cover my eyes when watvhing Grey’s Anatomy so I’m definitely not going to look at a picture of someone who has been shot in the head… Even if it is OBL.

  • Troy La Mana

I’m with you Brian. Just do it or else there is going to be a larger portion saying it was all faked to win BHO re-election. I know that there will be a small portion that will never be convinced but some people just want to see the proof. Without that proof there can’t be closure.

  • Brian H

I would not be surprised if Obama ends up releasing the photos with the next week. The public pressure, the endless questions that will be asked every day in the Whitehouse briefing room.

As for me, I say release. Not because you are trying to “prove” he is dead. Nothing and no evidence will ever convince conspiracy nuts that a conspiracy is not a conspiracy.

I say release because I believe that I and every other American who had to sit and watch our fellow citizens jump from buildings to their death on live TV have earned the right to see this guy dead. Maybe it is simply my own sadistic curiosity, but, I want to see this guy dead so in my own my mind I can partake in the enjoyment and silent celebration. If nothing else it makes me personally feel better to know that the entire world is seeing the end game that is in store for killing innocent Americans.

People who claim they need to see the photos to prove to the world UBL is dead are spinning. I am no different the rubber-neckers who slow down to see the traffic accident. The only difference is in this case I am glad the person who died has suffered their fate.
