We talked a few days ago about how completely unnecessary public unions are. Now those elected in Wisconsin to fix that state’s fiscal problems have finally acted after allowing the grandstanding to continue for three weeks while the Democrats had run away.

Per the AP:

The Wisconsin Senate succeeded in voting Wednesday to strip nearly all collective bargaining rights from public workers, after Republicans outmaneuvered the chamber’s missing Democrats and approved an explosive proposal that has rocked the state and unions nationwide.

Per the Wisconsin Senate’s press release:

After nearly a month of debate on the budget repair bill, nearly three weeks of childish stunts and delay tactics from the Democrats, the longest public hearing in state history and the longest Assembly debate in state history, the Senate met tonight to pass the non-fiscal items in the Budget Repair Bill. . . .

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald added:

Enough is enough. The people of Wisconsin elected us to do a job. They elected us to stand up to the broken status quo, stop the constant expansion of government, balance the budget, create jobs and improve the economy. The longer the Democrats keep up this childish stunt, the longer the majority can’t act on our agenda. . . .

We have confirmed with the Legislative Fiscal Bureau, the Legislative Council and the Legislative Reference Bureau that every item in tonight’s bill follows the letter of the law.

The people of Wisconsin elected us to come to Madison and do a job. Just because the Senate Democrats won’t do theirs, doesn‘t mean we won’t do ours.

What courage in Wisconsin! I cannot remember seeing such a collection of brave politicians showing such a level of courage.

What restraint in Wisconsin! The governor and the state police in many places would have brought out the mace, the tasers, the billy clubs.

What thugery in Wisconsin! Union thugs yelling “this is democracy” as they hold the capitol hostage.

What inspiration in Wisconsin! I am a real actions rather than words kind of guy. Speeches don’t do much for me as some of the best liars are also the best speakers, but actions inspire me… May we all learn from and try to live up to the example being set for us in Wisconsin.

I apologize that I ever thought of Wisconsin as just another blue state where all they do is make cheese. I think I might plan a vacation up there – in a July or August, of course, I am still a Texan!
