Obama’s phone call

Top ten things overheard today during the telephone call Obama placed to GWB:

10. “How do you spell “strategery”?”

9. “Would you mind if I blamed one more thing on you?”

8. “Do you have any ideas on how to shut Joe Biden up?”

7. “I’ve maxed out the government credit card. Any idea where you might have stashed a few extra hundred billion?”

6. “Thanks for the TARP bill. IT was cool taking over the auto industry and student loan biz.”

5. “How did it feel in the mornings not having the media as your bosom buddy?”

4. “Any ideas on how to get flyover country to like me again? What’s so funny?”

3. “Got any good places to go on vacation?”

2. “Know any good economists?”

1. “Would it be OK if I took all the credit for this war, even though I voted against every measure to make it succeed?”

In the current political climate, for me, the new Health Care law is a defining issue in this and the next election cycle. I recently spoke with a doctor who is in a highly specialized field of medicine, about the current health care law. One thing came out of the conversation that really surprised me. She said that she only paid off her medical school loans last year. This surprised me, because she has been in practice for no less than 18 years (the time that I have known her). Now, I do not wish to submit that she has lived in abject poverty during that time, but the length of time to pay the loans back was longer than one would expect. I wonder how much time it takes litigators, like John Edwards to pay back their student loans. Especially since they make so much of their money at the expense of doctors.

Welcome to our latest contributor, Anthony W. Hager!

When it comes to pontificating on the contemporary political scene Chris Varano might make a pretty fair sports broadcaster. Sports broadcasting is, after all, the Dallas native and Texas Christian University sophomore’s major. As such, his next editorial for TCU’s online newspaper should touch on Brett Favre’s myriad retirements, leaving politics alone, lest he become another (God forbid) Keith Olbermann.

Varano believes opposition to the “ground zero mosque” is Islamophobia in the first-degree. And he quotes Al Franken–Minnesota’s dubiously elected, self-proclaimed expert on everything–to validate his claim. That Mr. Varano, is strike one. Citing Sen. Franken on serious matters is akin to heeding Terrell Owens’ advice on improving team chemistry.

How does Sarah Palin, assuming she will pursue the GOP nomination for president, overcome the perception–or reality, depending on your point of view–that she isn’t qualified to be president?

According to the new survey from Vanity Fair and CBS News’ 60 Minutes
, only 1 in 4 of all adults thinks Palin is qualified to be commander-in-chief while 60 percent say she is not.

By a narrow 47-40 percent margin however, Republicans do feel Palin has the right stuff to be president. But self identified conservatives – constituting the segment of the GOP largely thought to most favor the former Alaska governor – are essentially split 41-40 percent on her abilities to govern the country.

Consider again that data: Conservatives, ie. those most likely to vote in a primary or caucus, are split 41-40 on her abilities to govern the country. Can anyone make an argument this isn’t a huge problem for Palin?

What’s all the fuss about? Check out Lazio.com for the details.

Given where we stood two years ago, this is nothing short of stunning.

We have all had summers to remember…
We have all had summers to forget!
But, this summer fo our First Family is
Certainly their worst ever, I bet.

Like promising the kids Disneyworld
Then delivering the back yard only,
Barack promised us the “Summer of
Recovery”. Didn’t happen. Pure baloney!

Brian Haner wrote this to express his opinion on the Arizona anti-illegal immigration bill.

Well isn’t this just delicious. Brad Pitt implies he’d consider the death penalty for those involved in the BP oil spill.

Brad Pitt: I’d Reconsider My Views on Death Penalty Due to BP Oil Spill
Published August 23, 2010

Brad Pitt has said that he would consider executing those responsible for the BP oil spill if he was in power. The “Fight Club” and “Ocean’s Eleven” actor, said he usually opposed capital punishment but would make an exception if he could.

Interesting… I wonder if he’d reconsider his views on the death penalty for having made the stinker Meet Joe Black.

The web is buzzing this morning with the results of new TIME poll. It found that nearly 1 in 4 Americans think Obama is a Muslim.

Other interesting findings:

Twenty-eight percent of voters do not believe Muslims should be eligible to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court. Nearly one third of the country thinks adherents of Islam should be barred from running for President — slightly higher than the 24% who mistakenly believe that the current occupant of the Oval Office is himself a Muslim. In all, just 47% of respondents believe Obama is a Christian; 24% declined to respond to the question or said they were unsure, and 5% believe he is neither Christian nor Muslim.

So how about you? Do you believe Barack Obama is a Muslim?

From the Republican Governors Associaton: Remember November.

12 Weeks from Republican Governors Association on Vimeo.

I tell you that Harry Reid is a hoot! A HOOT I tell you! He cannot understand how anyone of “Hispanic heratige can be a Republican”.

Well Mr Reid, I’d like to invite you to New Mexico. I realize that New Mexico is the no-fly zone of flyover country, but we have a lot of Hispanic people here. And although Democrats outnumber Republicans 2 to 1 here, there are Republicans and some of them are Hispanic. I know, I know, take a minute and ponder it, let it soak in.

Now that you’ve soaked it in Sen. Reid, the Republican candidate for governor Susana Martinez is of Hispanic heratige. I’m sure you’re wondering, Mr Senator, how she can even live with herself, but sir, we ask the same of you, when you continue to say things as dumb as this.

In a bit of sad news, former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens has died in a plane crash.

Hillary replacing Joe on the ticket in 2012 is becoming an interesting piece of beltway gossip. Then yesterday I had lunch with someone who’s connected in those circles and, frankly, just knows stuff, and she offered this nugget: “What if Hillary not only resigned from State after midterms and announced her challenge to Obama in 2012, but also named a running mate? Someone steady and moderate, like Evan Bayh. They would campaign together as a ticket from Day 1.”

Thoughts?
