Unless you’re in hiding deeper than Sandra Bullock these days, you know that the House is scheduled to vote on the 2010 Welcome to Canada Health Care Bill. So let’s have some fun.

Predict the final outcome (example: 220-215) and whether it passes or fails. Whomever predicts the final vote will win a copy of my latest novel, The Cross Gardener.

I’ll post a tiebreaker question only if needed after the vote.

    220 for
    211 against

    • Brian H

Good luck with your pic, German. If you win request the German version of Jason’s book.

Glad to see your still following the goings on in the USA. What’s the take on POTUS Obama in Germany these days? Are his German approval ratings sinking as fast as his American ratings?

    • German Observer

Hey Brian, I was damn close, right?

There is no approval ratings in that sense about Obama in Germany. But enthusiasm among people and in the media certainly dropped somewhat over the time. There is some events, whre Europeans certainly expected more, like his disappointing appearence in Copenhagen or an unclear strategy in Palestine (though certainly very difficukt situation). On the other hand his efforts regarding the health insurance bill is seen with great sympathy, considering that the opposition in our eyes is an absolute head shaker.

All in all, I would say, most people think, he needs more time and he is fighting real uphill battles. anyway, the overall mood always was more like a mixture between sympathy, relieve and hope. He has never been seen as a Messiah, which I anyway hold to be a word by Republicans to make his supporters look naive and gaga.

  • Brian H

    Yes – 222
    No – 213

Can we do a contest asking us to predict….

how much our insurance premiums will go up?

how long our wait to see our doctors will increase?

how much this will add to the deficit over the next 20 years?

how many Republicans wish they could have a mulligan on their temper-tantrum votes?

how bad the DNC will have their butts handed to them in November?

  • Brennan Vincent

    The bill will pass 228-203.

  • Rusty Shackleford

    “For” this crap legislation

  • Red State Eddio

    217-215 passing

Holy hell and revolution will ensue.

My Fantasy Pick – 215 voting for it, and the measure failing, in what will forever be labeled as the “Pelosi Charge” (akin to Pickett’s Charge on day three of Gettysburg)

  • Liz

Good grief, this is no time for levity, I am sick about this hostile takeover of America by an Elite and mentally ill few. I predict Obama is indicted before the vote. At least that’s my fervent hope.

  • kristen

Unfortunately, I’m afraid it will squeak by:

  • Dick Anderson

    219 for, 212 against :(

    • http://www.politicalderby.com/ Jason Wright, Editor

And we have a winner. (even though we’re all losers in this one) Congrats, Dick Anderson. Please visit http://www.jasonfwright.com and drop me a note with your book preference and address.

    • Brian H

Congrats, Dick. You will have something nice to read while you wait…wait….wait…and wait to see a doctor.

  • Lisa Fountain

    It will be defeated.
    Against: 218
    For: 213

  • Whodat

I hope I am wrong, but I fear
    it will pass, 218-213

I also predict a rage among people and
such litigation among the states, that
our system descends into chaos for a few months.

  • Gary R

I would be THRILLED if I’m wrong, but I agree with Eden… it’ll pass by one vote.

Any others who might’ve voted yes will be “allowed” to vote no to save their worthless hides in November (not that it’ll work).

    Idiots: 216
    Patriots: 215
    America: Zero

  • C Baldwin

I think Pelosi and the BO team will do enough arm twisting that it will pass: 219-216.

Enough states are passing statutes that prohibit federal mandated health care so we can watch as it goes to the SCOTUS.

  • Troy La Mana

I’d say 214-217 to fail then The Obamanation signs an executive order deeming it have passed and signs the White House version into law.

  • B. Taylor

I’m guessing (hoping) that Pelosi is bluffing in order to get the remaining undecideds to move her way. The CW has been that they will only call a vote when they have the numbers. Thus the big bluff. The logic being – if they think it is going to pass anyway, then the Dem holdouts will want to at least get some Dem money for their reelection fight. If they vote no they get nothing.
    So: It fails 217-214.

  • http://twitter.com/theatomicmom East of Eden

I think this will only be voted on if and when they have enough votes…so if they’re voting it will pass, by just a squeek.
