Time to charge the paddles?

There are few things more painful to watch than a Robert “Dilbert” Gibbs press conference. The job as chief Team Obama Spear Catcher is an unenviable one but, at the risk of indulging in The One’s favorite descriptor, Dilbert Gibbs’ daily floundering is – dare I say – “unprecedented”.

Case and point: in today’s daily press briefing, Dilbert Gibbs was confronted with the reality that the daily tracking poll of The One’s approval rating had plummeted to a new low of 47%. This is quite a dramatic drop from his inaugural approval rating of 346%. Ok, I admit to making up one of those numbers.

I digress, but not nearly as far as did Dilbert Gibbs. Said Dilbert:

I tell you, if I was a heart patient and Gallup was my EKG, I’d visit my doctor. If you look back, I think five days ago, there was an 11-point spread, now there’s a 1-point spread. I mean, I’m sure a 6-year-old with a crayon could do something not unlike that. I don’t put a lot of stake in, never have, in the EKG that is the daily Gallup trend. I don’t pay a lot of attention to the meaninglessness of it.

I have to hand it to Dilbert Gibbs. He does know how to insert health care propaganda into any answer to any question. The fact of the matter is, the daily tracking poll is the EKG of any administration. I’m just curious as to when the call will be made to “break out the paddles”.

Have I mentioned lately how much I miss Tony Snow?
