The Obama Administration has now determined that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and four others, are to be brought to the United States to face trial in New York City for the carnage they perpetrated against the innocent people of that city. In response to this abysmal decision Attorney General Eric Holder said “To the extent that there are political consequences, I’ll just have to take my lumps”. Unfortunately, Mr. Holder, so will the American people, the families of the victims, and the people of New York City. I won’t attempt to reargue the minutia of why this is the worst, among many, of the Obama Administrations poor judgment calls; the pundits are doing a great job of that. My concern is with complete naiveté and heartless logic that the President exercises in an attempt to appease others around the world above the people for whom he was elected to serve.

Debra Burlingame , whose brother, Charles Burlingame piloted American Airlines flight #77 that was hijacked and flow into the side of the Pentagon on Sept. 11 , said this decision will result in exulting “the suffering of (the) families, ridiculing the judge, his lawyers and the American justice system, and worst of all, rallying his jihadi brothers to kill more Americans.”

Judea Pearl, the father of slain journalist Daniel Pearl, said this decision by the Justice Department made him “sick to his stomach”. Daniel Pearl was beheaded and slaughtered at the direct hand of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

A Mighty Heart

A statement released by the Pearl family’s foundation said:

We are respectful of the legal process, but believe that giving confessed terrorists a worldwide platform to publicize their ideology sends the wrong message to potential terrorists…

Indeed, it does.

Yet, this President and his administration are hell-bent on following through with a policy that will bring emotional anguish to thousands of families, provide a world-wide platform for calls of “jihad”, and potentially lead to NYC becoming at greater risk of targeted attacks.

It is often easier to simply scoff at President Obama as “The One”, “The Massiah”, “TOTUS”, etc. etc. but the reality is that he is the President of the United States. As such, his actions have serious consequences on millions of people and a Constitution that he swore an oath to “preserve, protect and defend” to the best of his ability. What we have been witness to thus far from President Obama is not a man that is enlightened or worldly but a man that is aloof to the world around him and aloof to the consequences of his actions.
