A bow in respect for the customs of another country I can understand. What I don’t understand is the diminutive head down bow.

Someone on The Obamanations staff should have explained it:

If the person is higher status or older than you are, you should bow deeper and longer. It is polite to bow, bending from your waist. Breaking down this bow, 1: Not at 15 degrees. 2: Should not have shook hands. 3: Left hand in wrong “female” position.

You are so over-reacting! It is a simple greeting in japan, nothing to worry about…or he tripped…or he was just trying to be at eye level with the very short emperor. I am sure a spokesman for the whitehouse will clarify this for all of us ignorant commoners soon.
