Missouri Representative Russ Carnahan attempted to sell to his constituency in St. Louis President Obama’s assertion that the federal government could be more efficient and actually save money compared with the private sector in healthcare.

It didn’t turn out so well for Rep. Carnahan.

I would have really liked to her his response to why Congress wasn’t going to be on it.

Funny thing, I remember Candidate Obama promising that his healthcare reform would make it so every American would have Congress’ healthcare options. How does it go? Crack, another promise broken?

All you have to do is look at Romney care in Mass. Costs there have gone over budget by 42% in just three years. Wait times to get into your drs are ~50 days, and the average family pays ~$600 a month for coverage. I honestly don’t know who is crunching the numbers for the Dems, but they are on the Kool-aid and need to get off. There is no way in he** that this could ever be deficit neutral.

Thought it was interesting that Romney spoke about the Mass. arrangement with Newsweek and said this at one point:

“I’ve received no calls from Democrats saying – what do you think about it? What would you do differently if you were to do it today? There’s a whole series of things I’d do differently.”

      • Gary Russell

I’m glad to hear that Romney is saying that. I have wondered what his stance on all of this is, given his past experience.

      • http://twitter.com/theatomicmom East of Eden

I am too. Romney care has been my greatest hang up with him. And I remember when it was singed into law, I was so surprised that HE, the ultimate business man, and capitalist was ok with it. I just don’t understand how and why this is being ignored…well, ok MSM yes, but even with my liberal friends that I’ve given the stats to, are in total denial that it’s a failure.

        • Alaina Segovia

See that’s a big reason why I don’t like him and have always said that it felt like he took a Conservative checklist and marked off each box as he went through the primaries.

I don’t understand how someone can touts himself as an expert in business and the economy and then goes off and votes for a socialized healthcare plan. No one with any business sense whatsoever would know that it doesn’t work.

Alaina – I’ve heard others make this statement before, and here’s why I don’t see it that way and might actually disagree with you.

It all boils down to leadership. Mitt had a choice that we all are facing. I personally agree that while for the most part the US health care situation has been good, we do need to address certain aspects of the system. I don’t think it’s perfect where it is now. However, it doesn’t mean we need to swing the pendulum to the opposite end with Obamacare, either.

As a smart leader, Mitt made a choice to attempt to lead the reform as a conservative and businessperson, rather than abdicate the leadership of it to idiots like Pelosi-Reid-Frank-Waxman and co. So he attempted to steer reform to address areas of need and do so in a way that would work best.

Now did he do a good job? As a leader, looking at the way he proceeded through the process, yes. Are the fruits (the results) what they wanted to see? No. And he’ll be the first to admit it, if the article is any indication.

But I’d rather have Mitt & his leadership attempting to chart a wiser market-involved course through this complex field than handing the reigns to the mighty Oba-wan, who is attempting to spin and bluster his catastrophe through Congress even as I type.

            • Red State Eddio

I’ll also add that I sure hope Mitt can come out eventually and call it what it was – a sincere attempt to do the impossible (have gov’t involved like it is). He made a noble effort, but it just won’t pay off.

              • Alaina Segovia

We definitely have a flawed system and there are things that can and should be done to “fix” the system.

That said, I think it should have been clear to Romney as a business man and a student of capitalism that is was a very, very flawed plan.

It’s great that he tried to fix the system, but I have a hard time buying into his economic credentials. You also have to remember that I’m a management consultant and have worked very closely with many high level execs… sometimes they really make you wonder how they got to their position, who was crazy enough to put them there and why no one has canned them. Just because people have run businesses or been at the top of very successful organizations doesn’t mean they have a clue.

“…they really make you wonder how they got to their position, who was crazy enough to put them there and why no one has canned them.”

Ha! Totally agree; loved the way you said it.

I think after watching this national trainwreck, Mitt would be wise to issue a “mea culpa” on Mass.

            • Shawn Naegle

You don’t sign a bill that FORCES people to buy health insurance or face higher taxes and call it leadership or conservatism. The whole Massachusetts plan was a terrible crime against freedom and limited government. You can spin it how you want if it makes you feel better about Romney. I may vote for the man, but I will never be under the illusion that he is a conservative, just a better choice than the other liberals.

              • Alaina Segovia

                My thoughts exactly!

    • Sartho

I’m curious what he actually means by “deficit neutral”. We interpret it as being some sort of balanced budget, but I wonder if he really means that it won’t cause a larger deficit than the one we’re currently experiencing meaning he’d have a trillion dollar + buffer zone.

      • http://twitter.com/theatomicmom East of Eden

It’s a buzz word that some one made up to help us feel better and asuage our fears…it means NOTHING and they know it. They are hoping that the general public won’t think too hard about it and go back to watching American Idol

Saw it yesterday. Couldn’t believe he kept trying to go on! I love the one female staffer who was vigrously shaking her head in confirmation of one of his stats. She looks like some naive, leftover mis-placed flower child from the 60′s.

Multiply that by 160 more million people, and that is what the country is saying to this farce.

Even Rahm has got to hear the thunder of that laugh track.
