This is just bizarre, two of the front runners just self imploded, at least that is the assumption

As a liberal I think the person I most fear in the White House, other than Jeb Bush would be Newt Gingrich, does this help him and does he have a serious shot at the nomimation?

I think baring a disaster, Predident Obama will easily win reelection in 2012, so we might see another Bob Dole situation where none of the big guns would want to take the incumbant on

Maybe she is just setting an example for Sanford to follow. Seriously, I think she Is just sick of being a lib target & has too many other options that hopefully will help get her kids out of lettermans monologue and keep her kid with downs out of the tabloids. Too many sick people with microphones in Amerika today.

I think the jury’s out on whether this will help or hurt any 2012 aspirations. It depends on what she does with it. As of right now, I’d say it doesn’t help … but we’ll see.

THis for sure ends any political aspirations she will ever have. no way she could run for anything now.

I think she was just sick of all the hassle, all the attacks, all the sick ethics complaints.

If you are catching flack, you are over the target. Well, Huck was right on that, but some Political Planes can’t handle the flack and either turn back, or explode spectacularly.

Most of my fellow PDers (except Troy & RickyD) seem to be assuming the worst, so I’m going to go out on a limb here.

I do not at all think that her family is experiencing a “Sanford” problem.

A Senate run is possible, but why would she need to leave office for that?

I’m thinking that she is taking a private sector position that will put her in a position to spend more time with her family, stop gettting frivilous lawsuits by libs, increase the family cash flow, all while still leaving her options open for a 2012 pres run.

I really didn’t see Palin as a candidate for 2012. I think she was brought out too soon and it hurt her.

The only thing I can think of is she wants a run at Lisa Murkowski’s Senate seat.

When I first read an update, I thought it was simply she was not seeking re-election, which would make sense. But to just up and quit (how much more time did she have?) seems a tad bit excessive, unless there is a whole lot more underneath, a la Sanford.

I have no idea what her political aspirations truely are but I do think that if she uses the next two years wisely she may be doing her Presidential aspirations, if she has any, some good.

I expect we will get some serious and diverse perspectives on how this move will impact her morning line odds in the horserace. Good luck handicapping this one, Jason.

This is a stunner in every sense of the word. Not just deciding against reelection in 2010, but resigning completely the office in just three weeks.

My Sanford Instincts tell me there is more to this than wanting to be prepped for 2012.

I think her chances of winning the nomination, should she still decide to make a run, just took an Alaskan size hit.

She’ll also be able to travel ABROAD more freely, also, which will allow her to build up some foreign affairs credentials.

(And by foreign affairs, I don’t mean the “Sanford” variety!)

Good move for her. Hopefully, Alaska will choose a good replacement.
