As a part-time sportscaster,
I find strength among metaphors,
I find them descriptive and worthy

This one, of Franken over Coleman,
Is rich, metaphorically speaking,

Now, Republican leadership has yet

You do raise a good point Treen. I do think, however Kennedy and Byrd would show up for the big stuff or if things got down to the wire. And yes, they both should retire.

Kaiser, I say selected with him because he made a huge deal out of Bush-Gore 2000 and used the term selected. Just trying to point out the irony here….

As for Bush-Gore 2000, if you read the decision, Bush wasn’t selected, the SC just said Al Gore couldn’t keep counting till he won.

Yeah, they have 60 votes … if Kennedy and Byrd actually SHOW UP. Yes, I realize they’re ill (which is why I think they should retire, but that’s another discussion for another day). So they’re still at 58.

I think selected is more appropriate in this case since the number of votes ‘found’ that overturned the election and that magically all went for franken is quite a bit different than W (who won the initial count and each recount). Interesting the same team for franken helped overturn an election in washington (i believe it was washington) state a few years back…also a socialist replacing a republican. Though i don’t think it matters that it is filibuster proof. Filibusters require someone with a spine and there seems to be a lack of those in the republican side of the senate anyway. (plus the fact there are at at least a couple of republicans there who don’t know which party they are in). Either way, it’s time to pack it in…America as you remember it is long gone thanks to bush and obama, et al.

Selected?

That’s a bit of a strong term. Did you use the word “selected” when Dubbya got the same treatment from SCOTUS?

They ruled in favor of Franken, saying they “selected” him as the winner makes it sound like a coup or something.

It was a close race, it could have gone either way. Franken won the coin toss.
