UPDATE: Coleman has conceded. Classy. He could have gone on to SCOTUS.

Yikes

In case you didn’t know, the Minnesota Supreme Court selected, Al Franken, of SNL Stewart Smalley fame, to the US Senate today. What this now means is that the Democrats have a filibuster proof Senate. God help us all.

    Selected?

That’s a bit of a strong term. Did you use the word “selected” when Dubbya got the same treatment from SCOTUS?

They ruled in favor of Franken, saying they “selected” him as the winner makes it sound like a coup or something.

It was a close race, it could have gone either way. Franken won the coin toss.

I think selected is more appropriate in this case since the number of votes ‘found’ that overturned the election and that magically all went for franken is quite a bit different than W (who won the initial count and each recount). Interesting the same team for franken helped overturn an election in washington (i believe it was washington) state a few years back…also a socialist replacing a republican. Though i don’t think it matters that it is filibuster proof. Filibusters require someone with a spine and there seems to be a lack of those in the republican side of the senate anyway. (plus the fact there are at at least a couple of republicans there who don’t know which party they are in). Either way, it’s time to pack it in…America as you remember it is long gone thanks to bush and obama, et al.

In the spirit of full disclosure, can America please have a closer look at that coin.

Yeah, they have 60 votes … if Kennedy and Byrd actually SHOW UP. Yes, I realize they’re ill (which is why I think they should retire, but that’s another discussion for another day). So they’re still at 58.

You do raise a good point Treen. I do think, however Kennedy and Byrd would show up for the big stuff or if things got down to the wire. And yes, they both should retire.

You mean they would be wheeled onto the Senate floor to cast one light for yes and two lights for no.

Kaiser, I say selected with him because he made a huge deal out of Bush-Gore 2000 and used the term selected. Just trying to point out the irony here….

As for Bush-Gore 2000, if you read the decision, Bush wasn’t selected, the SC just said Al Gore couldn’t keep counting till he won.

And the sad fact is if Algore would have just asked for a statewide recount instead of just counting select democrat heavy counties he would have won.

        That is probably the case.

And aren’t we glad he wasn’t smart enough to do that.

While I have little to no love for GWB, and absolutly no love for AG, I do wonder sometimes what the world would be like had AG been the president.

Why stoop to his level EoE? We should be better then that!

What exact level are you refering too? I’m confused, and it has nothing to do with the teething baby on my lap at all.

BTW…thanks to whichever Admin put up the pic. Didn’t even think to do that. :)

Pelosi, Reid, Franken……faces of the Democrat Party.

I must give the Dems credit on one decision they made successfully…choosing their party mascot.

He’s NOT good enough, NOT smart enough, and doggonit, only SOME people like him.

Seriously, what were the people of MN thinking?! (Maybe ACORN had a hand in this…..)

    As a part-time sportscaster,
    I find strength among metaphors,
I find them descriptive and worthy
Of making sense of awful scores.

This one, of Franken over Coleman,
    Is rich, metaphorically speaking,
Of the unexpected over the assumed,
Of the GOP ship’s continued leaking

    Now, Republican leadership has yet
Another trophy for its loser’s case
That hall of shame: GOP leadership,
Most seen under W’s stupid face!

    Now, Conservatives, our backs are
    Surely against the proverbial wall,
    Where we once controlled everything
We’ve handed libs the ball and all!

So, we’re painted in the corner-of
    Congress and just about everywhere.
Truly, there may be no tomorrow, I
    Wouldn’t bet on us on a dare…

    Ah,but sometimes it is,I’ve heard,
    Darkest just before the dawn…
    Sometimes the roughest rivers are
Where the most hearty fishes spawn.

Is this where we dig deep to find
That reason for which we were born?
Is this where we draw the line with
The fury of a woman scorned?

Demanding more of ourselves than we
Have or thought we could demand,
Is this where we define who we are,
Take our aim, and take our stand?

All I know is Whodat just O.D.ed on
    Methaphors;Can’t write another line
I’ll close this door & go for more
    (Junk)food for thought and wine…

Our congress is becoming quite a circus. Jefferson, Madison, Monroe… Franken? Pelosi? Franks?

You say those six names in a row and you get a smile of pride for the first three, followed by intense gagging for the last three.
