This surprises me. Newt was the loudest voice in the ’08 campaign saying “Why the heck has the campaign started already? It’s too early.” You’ll recall he pledged to make a decision after Labor Day in 2007, saying there would still be plenty of time to gear up for Iowa.

Now Gingrich says he’ll look at it in January of 2011, but only if he thinks “it’s necessary to do it.” Does that mean that Obama might be doing well enough for Newt to not see a need for a change? Does it mean it won’t “be necessary” if the right GOP candidate is running? Obviously one suspects the latter.

So, PD chattering class, who is (are) the candidate(s) that would satisfy Newt and make it unnecessary for him to run? He sure didn’t have much good to say about the 2008 class.

Gingrich talks openly about running in 2012

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Newt Gingrich is talking out loud about a possible run for the White House in 2012.

PS: Newt can’t win. Can anyone convince me otherwise?
