Just because someone is pro-choice does not mean they can’t be conservative, right? So their is no such thing as pro-choice conservative. I’m sure you will find many prominent conservatives that disagree with your simplified notion of conservatism. And also, as I have said before, one of original key elements to conservatism was non interventionist military action. Recall the position that Barry Goldwater, Mr. Conservative, holds on abortion: Abortion is “not a conservative issue at all”.

Alaina, there is a difference, but I am making a larger point about how the Republican Party needs moderates.

I’m not opposed to moderates in the party – some of my best friends are moderates. But from my perspective, it is because of moderates and because of wanting to take a moderate position that we have done such things as expanding Medicare, proposing amnesty, and not pursuing strong border security. All of which have been in contrast to conservative positions.

They might not rally the party, but like I said, they can win in in Maine because of their moderate stances. If you don’t want any House members in New England, then stick with your strategy. Without moderates, you’d be surprised how much smaller your party would be.

As I have said, many in the Republican Party fails to understand that there is a moderate wing in the party, and that it is vital to their success in the house. The moderate wing has long tradition from Nelson Rockefeller to Thomas Dewey all the way to senators like Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. Now you may not like to admit they’re moderate, but two moderate Republicans are better than any democrats. The Republican Party in the House is practically extinct in New England due to their lack of support of moderates.
There is a moderate wing to the Republican party, even if you don’t want to acknowledge it.

There is not one concise philosophy in being a conservative? C’mon? I think you have the word moderate confused with conservatism. Moderates have no definitive beliefs. Conservatism stands pretty firm – small government, strong defense, low taxes, right to life.

this is a pretty absurd statement, in all honesty. People, instead of their ideas, are regularly attacked here, whether they be posters or the political figures being discussed.

The title of this post is so disingenuous and flagrantly incorrect, it is certainly EITHER foolish or obnoxious. And it certainly isn’t meant to attack President Obama’s ideas, but to sow false information about an ongoing policy.
