Here’s another guest spot from RedStateEddio
Talk about stepping onto an open dirty diaper without shoes on. Yuck! Well, that’s about what happened when Nancy “dragging my heels is how I always walk†Pelosi decided that politics was just not enough when it came to her speaking authoritatively. She’s now decided to be the arbiter of religion as well.
In an interview with Tom Brokaw, she declared on the topic of abortion: “I would say that as an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time. And what I know is, over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition. And St. Augustine said at three months. We don’t know. The point is, is that it shouldn’t have an impact on the woman’s right to choose.â€
Lift foot. Step in poop. It’s that simple. Seriously, Nancy, you ought to know better. I mean it’s not like you’re Jewish or something. You really think that your theological view of the world has no bearing on this issue?
To which an irritated Washington Archbishop Donald Wueri declared “The current teaching of the Catholic Church on human life and abortion is the same teaching as it was 2,000 years ago. From the beginning, the Catholic Church has respected the dignity of all human life from the moment of conception to natural death.†He also cited a passage from the church’s catechism that condemns abortion as “gravely contrary to moral law.â€
Archbishops 1 – Nancy 0.
Echoing her misguided comments were those of Joe Biden’s, just brought out of an interview from 2006: “That debate [over abortion] in our church has not morphed, but changed over a thousand years. It always is viewed by the church as something that is wrong, but there’s been gradations of whether it was wrong. You know, from venial or mortal sin, as we Catholics say, and versions of it.â€
Apparently someone passed along to Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput their comments, to which he replied: “I presume that [Biden’s] integrity will lead him to refrain from presenting himself for communion, if he supports a false ‘right’ to abortion.â€
He also called Pelosi “a gifted public servant of strong convictions and many professional skills. Regrettably, knowledge of Catholic history and teaching does not seem to be one of them.â€
Whap! Kapow! Doink! Ouch!
Not only the esteemed Speaker of the House, but also the presumed Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate got a little old-school ruler spanking. Nothing beats a Bishop Beat-Down. I remember mine very well.
Could this all be happening because Barack America gave one of his more quizzical answers in the Saddleback Forum on this topic, and the Dems know that they will be pounded on by “values voters†who know when life begins—and aren’t being paid to give an answer?
The Democrats want to siphon off enough values voters to win the election. Contradicting church doctrine and annoying bishops is not the way to do it.
Memo to Nancy: Only the Pope and his leaders speak out on official Catholic doctrine and history. Leave the theological pronouncements to those qualified to do it. Return to your usual activities…whatever it is you do in Washington. Now THAT’S an item that only God knows the answer to.

Pelosi should be barred from receiving Holy Communion and be threatened with ex-communication.
Well it’s all over now…Pelosi just lost the evangelical vote.
It’s doubtful that she ever had it, but making idiotic statements like that just pushed the wavering few back over the fence again.
I would say that both Biden and Pelosi should not be able to partake of Holy Communion for (1) acting as if they were in authority to speak for the Catholic Church and (2) for proactively going against Church doctrine/belief! Abortion is immoral and wrong! Period!
Jacosta? Long time no see…
I miss all our old battles. Now that the primaries are over, will you please clarify for everyone that Governor Huckabee and his supporters aren’t anti-Mormon bigots for daring not bow to the great Olympic wizard…thanks.
P.S. – if your guy is the VP, I’ll support the ticket.
Wow AndDru, that’s like opening the front door for someone, then opening up with both barrels of a shotgun!
I’ve been blessed with the ability to throw out a good attack line every now and then, politics is a contact sport.
I meant no hostility towards Jacosta. But he/she was one of the first people to make the “bigot” claim.
It was a great campaign tactic on the part of the Romney campaign and their allies. It’s reminiscent of the “if you don’t vote for Barack, you’re a racist” tactic.
But just like the Obama camp finally halted that old tired line, it’s time for Romney’s people to do the same.
Which means Governor Huckabee should be able to weigh in on the veepstakes without the Romney people crying wolf.
“I mean it’s not like you’re Jewish or something.”
Funny. I’m a little surprised PD Admin and PD Editor let that slide.
Not meant to be insulting at all to anyone Jewish. I was only pointing out that she’s catholic from the get go, and yet she’s “fuzzy” on what her own church believes. I find that a bit mind-boggling.
“Oh. That’s very different. Never mind.”
There’s not much need to state the obvious about this. But it does bring back memories of when Romney gave his religion speech and there seemed to be a lot of people who had negative reviews of his speech because he didn’t go into his church’s doctrine. Sounds like Nancy and Joe should have learned from his example of why it’s good to let the church represent the church.
The problem is obviously with God, here. It is certain that a woman can never make a wrong choice. And since God goes around judging people’s choices, He is certainly being ungodly and must be defeated by the votes of politicians and judges.
And who are these so-called “bishops,” anyway? They must not know their place if they correct a senator on settled matters of double-speak. What, do they think God has spoken or something? The nerve.
*sarcasm alert*
So if we just ignore God, he’ll go away, right?
Liberals: Anti death penalty for criminals, pro death penalty for babies. Nice.
Conservatives: Pro death penalty for criminals, anti death penalty for babies.
Hello hypocrite.
Because the people who mourn the loss of criminals are so less hypocritical.
For your info…I’m against the death penalty in most situations too.
