There seems to be a bit of a kerfluffle on the housing issue today. Barack Obama has grasped one tiny straw with which he is attempting to flog John McCain: Houses. In an interview Wednesday, McCain was asked how many houses he and his wife Cindy own. His answer wasn’t the best, but when you consider the fact that the McCains have a 28 year old pre-nuptial agreement and have filed separate taxes for their entire marriage, it doesn’t take too much to understand the details of just who’s name is on the title to which property might not be at the forefront of a guy’s mind.

Obama wants to take this issue and use it to show just how out of touch McCain is with the “average” American who is struggling to pay the mortgage on his/her own piece of the country. Yet again, Team Obama didn’t bother to think through the issue before they decided to run with it.

Depending on which report you read and which interview you listen to, John and Cindy McCain own between four and seven pieces of real estate. I don’t know where they are and I don’t really care. What I do know is somehow the McCains managed to finance all those properties without the assistance of a “longtime political associate convicted of six counts of wire fraud, six counts of mail fraud, two counts of corrupt solicitation, and two counts of money laundering.” The Obamas can’t say the same thing about their most recent real estate venture. The circumstances surrounding the purchase of Obama Manor don’t even come close to passing any sniff test.

For a guy who promised never to bring a knife to a gunfight, Obama sure has a knack for picking a fight with a heavily armed adversary and showing up with a dull penknife.
