2008 VP Power Rankings: August 19th - FINAL EDITION!
Posted on August 19th, 2008 at 10:26 am by PD AdministratorWith both candidates on the verge of making their VP choices public, it comes time for the final edition of the PD VP PR. For those of you slow on the uptake, that’s the Political Derby Vice Presidential Power Rankings.
The braintrust at PD, an oxymoron if ever there was one, decided a group ranking was appropriate for the final veep rankings. After all, why should Jason be the only one who’s wrong?
All contributors ranked their choices and points were awarded similarly to the Heisman Trophy format. 3 for a first place vote, 2 for a second, 1 for a third.
Here’s how it shook out:
Republicans
1. Mitt Romney (13 points)
2. Tim Pawlenty (11 points)
3. Tom Ridge (6 points)
t4. Charlie Crist (3 points)
t4. Mark Sanford (3 points)
Democrats
t1. Evan Bayh (11 points)
t1. Joe Biden(11 points)
2. Tim Kaine (10 points)
3. Chuck Hagel (2 points)
t4. Jack Reed (1 point)
t4. Kathleen Sebelius (1 point)

I failed to mention that each side had an honorable mention.
For the Republicans it was Jason Wright.
For the Democrats it was Patrick Keegan.
I want to change my superdelegate/VP selector vote from T.Ridge to C. Crist on the Repub side.
I’m still sticking with Bayh on the left.
And yes, Troy, we’re all going to vote Bob Barr-*promise*!
Very interesting. SO the concensus on the D side is that no one has a clue who Obama will pick.
Are these predictions of who the candidates WILL pick or SHOULD pick? I guess I ask that mainly on the Repub side of things.
I believe this is “would pick” if the spirit of the rankings is invoked.
Anyone read this yet ——>

That to me just confirms that Palin won’t be on the ticket.
Very interesting. The experience thing is the big concern with Palin though. But she would certainly be a bold pick who would not be offensive to the right, so we’ll see.
Overall, PD contributors, I think they’re good lists! The power rankings have been fun. I am sorry to see them come to an end but even American elections can’t last FOREVER!
Praise God for that!
I think both candidates will surprise us. My pick for Obama is Sam Nunn (he mentioned that he would be a key advisor when speaking with Rick Warren the other night). My pick for McCain is Rob Portman (McCain is announcing his VP in Ohio, Portman’s home state). With Nunn, Obama will have a strong foreign affairs runningmate. With Portman, McCain will have an A+ economics guy at his side. We’ll see.
I could see Portman as a good op. Plus, he’d possibly deliver Ohio, which is sizing up big in battleground states. That’s why he and Crist are the 2 big front-runners for me: both are solid guys from 2 battleground states who do not have any lightning rod negatives about them.
So, when can we expect the new power rankings?
