Add this to the list of Obama sound bytes needing to be played on the 24 hour Obama channel.

It should be the easiest of questions for any presidential candidate to answer. You’d think anyone even thinking of a run at the Oval Office would have the answer to the following question so well rehearsed there would be no possibility of screwing it up. Here’s the question:

Why do you want to be President?

Asked by a seven-year-old girl – obviously a McCain plant – Obama had this response:

America is …, uh, is no longer, uh … what it could be, what it once was. And I say to myself, I don’t want that future for my children.

So, evidently America once was what it could be and that’s the future Obama wants for his country. No other historical context was given for Obama’s idea of a better America, so your guess is as good (maybe) as mine. What I do know is, having looked at what Obama’s future America will cost the average taxpayer, I’m pretty sure I can’t afford it.

Maybe the Hawaiian surf will help Obama re-engage his internal censor. I sure hope not.

I don’t understand how the right at once criticizes Obama for relying too heavily on his rhetorical skills — which rest assured, are vastly better than George W’s — and then attacks him for lack of eloquence when he stumbles to explain politics to a seven year old. Perhaps McCain wouldn’t have stumbled, but that’s because his messages are generally issued at a complexity already easily accessible to a first grader. “Straight talk!”

There may be other reasons but the main reason to criticize Obama for his lack of eloquence is that he RELIES on his eloquence. His claim is that his superior diplomacy, persuasive speech, and nuanced understanding and rhetoric will pay dividends in foreign relations and allow him exert influence that others less gifted will be unable to exert. This claim coupled with his lack of other skills means that questions about his rhetorical skill call into questions his qualifications to be president.

It is not the same for McCain as he is not relying on his rhetorical skill or eloquence as a qualifier for the office.

I agree with Kristen 100%, Obama an “eleoquent speake”?

General Zod-Obama’s articulation makes George “W” look sound William F. Buckley.

Are we seriously gonna make this guy President? I think I’m gonna launch my 2012 exploratory commitee ASAP.

Yeah, see, I still don’t understand how Obama is described as an ‘eloquent speaker’.

    That answer makes no sense.

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Just more proof that Obama isn’t ready to lead when out of teleprompter range.

Maybe a few dozen hard boiled eggs might help him.
