I guess I should start this post with a confession: I have no respect what so ever for the “Reverend” Jesse Jackson. None. Zip. Zero. Nada. Zilch. I could explain at length why I hold this man in such low esteem, but frankly you’d get bored and my fingers would get tired.

So, having made my bias perfectly clear, let me further shock my reading public by declaring – for the record – that an un-called for cheap shot has been leveled upon Barack Obama. Throw the yellow flag, ref, Jesse’s hitting below the belt. Literally.

In what he thought was an off-the-record discussion with a Fox News reporter, Jackson took careful aim at Obama’s nether region as he complained about Obama’s speeches in black churches and support for faith based charities.

[Digression] Is there ever such a thing as an off-the-record conversation with a reporter  – irregardless of the outlet for which s/he works?[/Digression]

For whatever reason, these actions by Obama irritate Jackson to the point that he

want[s] to cut his (Obama’s) n**ts off.

Yes, that is a direct quote. No, I’m not making this up. Follow the link if you don’t believe me.

Now it may surprise some of you to know that I have, on occasion, been very, very angry with other human beings in my life. I have been so angry with a few choice individuals that I did, in fact, desire great harm to come upon them. Had these individuals ever met me in a dark alley, I may have been tempted to inflict that harm with own hands.

Even as angry as I got, I never came to the point where I desired to sever important parts of their anatomy from their body – figuratively or literally. My point here is to note that this kind of threat isn’t something that flows naturally from a well adjusted human being.  Jesse Jackson can issue all the apologies he wants from as many hastily thrown together press conferences as he can muster. The fact of the matter is he doesn’t like Obama encroaching on the turf he’s been carefully cultivating since his infamous bloody shirt Today Show appearance in 1968.

As competitive and bruising as the political world may be, there is no excuse for this kind of cheap shot. Many years ago, after revealing that he had fathered a child outside wedlock, Jesse declared that he was going to “leave public life to reconnect with his family”. As you can tell, Jesse’s hiatus lasted about as long as a snowball does in Death Valley.

Right about now, I’m sure there are plenty of people at Team Obama who wish Jesse would have stayed in his self-imposed retirement.
