Because it’s a horserace…

Rush Limbaugh is a big fat filthy rich idiot

Posted on July 2nd, 2008 at 10:12 am by Patrick Keegan

I loathe the man, but his impact is undeniable.

Rush Limbaugh has apparently inked himself a deal that could be worth an excess of $400 million over the next eight years, according to a Drudge flash this morning.

That should be enough loot to widen the doors of his home, so he can fit his engorged ego through.

    Loathe?

Limbaugh gets his start in small-town markets in Missouri, pays his dues in broadcasting, works his butt off, becomes the most successful radio broadcaster EVER, gives a political voice to a group that was vastly under-represented at the time, faces a career-ending and life-changing medical problem with his hearing loss and subsequent surgery and adjustments…

    What a loathesome guy!!!

    What exactly do you loathe?

    His millions?
Do you also loathe all the lib Hollywood elite who prop up the leftists

    His success?
Do you loathe capitalism? Should he try to fail a little more often, in order to be fair to the failing “Air America” crowd?

    His history of weight problems?
Seems like he’s managed it about as well as most of us middle-aged guys.

    His ego?
Mostly an act - its part of what makes him entertaining. But, even if it wasn’t, I believe most of us would have a bit of an ego if we stayed at the TOP of our profession for a couple of decades, made a kajillion dollars a year, and had to face constant “hate speech” from jealous wannabes.

Oh, how I wish that the left could learn that they can DISAGREE with someones politics without LOATHING them personally. Talk about the “politics of destruction”!

And the tangible, substantive point of this post was…?

Name calling, character assassination, deflections, and utter nonsense. Yep, it’s a Patrick-post.

Why again was our esteemed editor Jason letting you post on PD? If it was to show the juvenile nature and thinking of liberals, he hit a grand slam. Well done, Jason.

    1. ShawnN on 02.07.2008 at 10:46 (Reply)

Agreed. Typical of liberals, they launch into personal attacks and hatred of the rich. Way to carry the torch of Liberalism Patrick. You do your kind proud!

  3. Cordeiro on 02.07.2008 at 10:55 (Reply)

Now, now, gentlemen. Patrick just needed a minute to vent his jealousy.

    1. Patrick Keegan on 02.07.2008 at 11:14 (Reply)

I actually felt it was time to rip someone other than Obama on here. ;)

      1. J. Shawn Durham on 02.07.2008 at 11:36 (Reply)

        Ha!

      2. Cordeiro on 02.07.2008 at 14:33 (Reply)

touche…or however the heck you spell that french word.

        1. Patrick Keegan on 02.07.2008 at 15:05 (Reply)

You got it right Cordeiro, just missing the little dash above the e at the end.

And I applaud your efforts lately to go beyond Obamabuse.

This type of post stinks. Its not really worth replying to, nor does it have the ability to generate the debate of ideas and opposing political views. The only type of comments this post will draw, are remarks about how worthless the post is. I feel dirty participating. The regular readers, both left and right, deserve better. I’m done with this thread.

  5. Patrick Keegan on 02.07.2008 at 11:12 (Reply)

I will withdraw loathe, I agree it’s a strong word, but Rush has used far more provocative language in describing his feelings towards people who don’t think like he does.

His closing for “Operation Chaos”, which many felt bordered on election tampering, was quite daintily described by his with this sentence:

“The dream end of this [of Operation Chaos] is that this keeps up to the Convention, and that we have a recreation of Chicago 1968 with burning cars, protests, fire, and literal riots and all of that, that is the objective here.”

So you all don’t cry to Jason that I ripped someone, I’ll say “dislike”.

First of all, in the very first line, I stated that his impact is undeniable, which of course, seeing your bastion of conservatism ripped, you ignored.

Second, I dislike Rush Limbaugh for none of the reasons Gary states. There is nothing wrong with success, millions, battling with weight and especially in his fight with hearing loss.

But that last one is where the hypocrisy rears it’s ugly head.

Limbaugh mocked Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s Disease by shaking and jittering in front of a web came during his show.

Sure, Limbaugh is well within his rights to disagree with Fox’s stands on stem cell research, but to visibly imitate him is disgraceful.

So Gary, if I started saying “huh”, “sorry, what did you say”, or in any way mocked Rush’s hearing issues, you’d act like I’d kicked your dog or something.

Rush has the right to his opinion, but that doesn’t give him the right to mock someone’s health issues.

    1. Gary Russell on 02.07.2008 at 12:28 (Reply)

      Patrick,

I saw and understood the video of Rush discussing Michael J. Fox. He wasn’t mocking the man, he was exposing the hypocrisy. While I felt that Rush could have been a little more tactful, I agreed with his analysis - simply that in the MJF ad, it seemed that they went out of their way to make MJF look his very worst. In other interviews during that time period, he was able to control his body much better. But, again, I agree that it could have been stated more gracefully.

I love how the liberals bash the vastly popular and successful conservative talk radio. Is it any wonder conservatives dominate the air waves and the libs shows tank? Absolutely not. People like Limbaugh, Hannity, and Savage strike a chord with Americans.

The libs rule the press and media; conservatives need a voice somewhere.

    1. David Kaiser on 02.07.2008 at 11:23 (Reply)

Patrick is taking a beating here, some of it deserved, but I do have to respond to kristen.

People like Limbaugh, Hannity, and Savage strike a chord with SOME Americans. They also often strike a bad chord with some as well.

Part of their success is the fact that they will often say some very outlandish things that garner attention.

      Why?

      Maybe because they believe it.

More likely because it gets ratings.

And Patrick, be careful, I think the daggers are out.

      1. RedstateEddio on 02.07.2008 at 20:41 (Reply)

        Daggers? Try RPG’s my man…

  7. Eric on 02.07.2008 at 11:31 (Reply)

Rush says he’s an American first, Conservative second, and Republican third (something like that). Personally, I’ve always thought he was an entertainer first, then all that other stuff. His ratings are not due simply to his beliefs, but to how he communicates them.

I am curious, though. Yesterday Patrick made a post about Obama’s VP options and it was ignored. Today he takes a benign pot-shot at Rush and it’s like he insulted a close, personal friend.

    1. RedstateEddio on 02.07.2008 at 20:54 (Reply)

Not sure what others are thinking, but for me, the post the other day had some good content to it. I read it, thought there were some good observations, but did not respond (time). I thought Patrick dun good.

But today’s just seemed to be a wasted rant on a side-show that has nothing to do with the presidential race. If Keith O. had a new contract for 20 million, I could not have cared less (other than wondering with what ad money were they going to pay him). To me, that’s the difference.

And the inflammatory language just added to the dismay.

      And it’s Patrick–he’s too easy to pick on… ;-)

      1. Patrick Keegan on 02.07.2008 at 21:05 (Reply)

I may be easy to pick on, but you guys are sooo easy to egg on.

Part of the reason for writing this post was to see just how much of a mess I could make on here with all of the right-leaning folks that are regulars here.

I have to say, the responses exceeded even my expectations :)

What can I say, I love making a mess. My mother always told me it was at once my best and worst quality.

        1. RedstateEddio on 02.07.2008 at 21:32 (Reply)

Well then, apparently, even you and I have something in common. ;-)

          1. Patrick Keegan on 02.07.2008 at 22:12 (Reply) (Comments won't nest below this level)

            Will wonders never cease!

I enjoy battling with you RSE, as well as the rest of the gang here, even if I’m out numbered :)

  8. J. Shawn Durham on 02.07.2008 at 11:52 (Reply)

Everyone needs to take a chill pill. All of the partisans are partisians, both on the left and the right, so they can polarize, and people who polarize make the big bucks. Look at Notre Dame Football — still getting the big time network money but their program stinks. Why? Because some people like Notre Dame and MOST PEOPLE FREAKING HATE NOTRE DAME! GO DAWGS!

Sorry. Got carried away. UGA VI passed this weekend, so forgive me.

Anyway, the point is that Rush isn’t right all the time. I, like Patrick and Al Franken, believe that Mr. Limbaugh is a big fat idiot.

Nevertheless, the conservatives who frequent this site, I believe far outweigh the libs and the progressives (that would be me). $400 million-plus to rabble rouse is a LOT OF JACK to do something that doesn’t:

    A) Put you in physical harm’s way
    B) Entertain via sports, television or movies (sure, Rush entertains, but anyone gonna pop in a LIMBAUGH DVD this holiday weekend? I didn’t think so)

    or

    C) Something along the lines of Messianic actions, like, feeding the hungry, healing the sick, you know, all that stuff that conservatives and Bible thumpers like — supposedly.

In conclusion (I forgot my point — oh yeah), NO ONE THIS SIDE OF JESUS SHOULD GET PAID, LIKE , ELEVENTY BILLION DOLLARS TO TALK TRASH FOR FOUR HOURS A DAY JUST TO DIVIDE THE ELECTORATE.

I’m tired of the Limbaughs, Hannitys and O’Reillys of teh world. Hell, I’m tired of the Olbermanns. We should promote more Chris Rocks, who says:

“I’m conservative on some things and I’m liberal on some other things. And anyone who has made up their mind on a position without listening to all sides of an issue is a (bleeping) idiot.”

It’s time all of us grow up and get out of this divisive partisan rhetoric that could kill this country. Funny thing is that the partisans in D.C. are actually great friends: Take Ted Kennedy and Orrin Hatch. Or Bill Clinton and George Bush the Elder. These guys smoke their cigars and watch the rest of the country get driven in a tizzy while theey make like pals.

This isn’t a pro-Lazlo post, but I must say that there IS something to the whole “two-party system/puppeteers” thing.

George Washington warned us about the advent of political parties. I would say that his worst fears have been realized.

    1. Eric on 02.07.2008 at 12:02 (Reply)

“The conservatives who frequent this site, I believe far outweigh the libs and the progressives”

So now ALL conservatives are fat?!

Hahaha. Good one Eric, levity is needed in this thread!

My condolences on the passing of UGA IV. One of the funniest sports bloopers of recent years involved one of his predecessors

  9. J. Shawn Durham on 02.07.2008 at 11:57 (Reply)

Patty, you’re doing a heckuva a job. Anytime I’m in Beantown, I’d like to look you up and have treat you to an ice cold glass of “Shake Your Hand.”

What? You guys don’t remember “Airplane” lines? Sheesh!

  10. Gary Russell on 02.07.2008 at 12:30 (Reply)

    Benign?
If that headline was benign, I’d hate to see malignant!

    1. Eric on 02.07.2008 at 12:42 (Reply)

My use of the word “benign” refers to the “harmless” definition, not the “good” or “nice” ones. (In Eric’s head, referring to one’s comments as “benign” is on the edge of being a pot-shot. Get the irony. Sorry Patrick.)

After all, just days ago Jason used the words “big fat doofus” in reference to Gen. Clark.

  11. JE on 02.07.2008 at 16:00 (Reply)

I would say the reaction to the post is completely out of proportion to what was said, much like the stupid comment by General ‘can i be your VP’ regarding McCain. Yeah, Limbaugh is paid alot of cash and as long as folks line up to advertise on his show he is earning it. I think athletes are overpaid for playing kids games but as long as folks drop big $ to go to games it will continue. Likewise w/ limbaugh.
And the title of the article is taken from a sad little book by a sad little man who couldnt make it on radio…but may soon be in the senate. How pathetic is that?

  12. Brian H on 02.07.2008 at 16:30 (Reply)

WOW! I go to work a few hours and all HELL breaks loose at PD. I havent seen a beating like this on PD since the time I called Ron Paul supporters KOOKS. LOL I stand by that by the way.

    About Rush.

The problem that the Rush bashers have is the fact that most of them have never listened to the man’s show….at all. The attacks on Rush by the Loony Left is exactly waht they do with Fox News.

Patrick. Try this for an experiment please. Listen to one full show of Rush, post your comments and thoughts. See if you still feel the same about him after.

    1. Patrick Keegan on 02.07.2008 at 18:25 (Reply)

Brian, believe it or not, I’ve listened to Rush plenty. When you spend a lot of time in the car, you listen to the radio (or your iPod), and as kristen pointed out, there isn’t much liberal talk radio, so I’m stuck with Rush and Hannity.

I’d like to think what they say is part entertainment, but the realist in my knows that there are people that actually think like him.

He actually said he literally wanted riots in Denver, just like in ‘68.

That’s far worse than me quoting Al Franken and calling him an idiot.

  13. J. Shawn Durham on 02.07.2008 at 17:04 (Reply)

    GODSPEED, UGA VI!

  14. Lazlo on 03.07.2008 at 06:14 (Reply)

Big fat? Yes, unfortunately, he couldn’t drop the fat.

    Filthy? Pfft.

Rich? Yes…and he earns every bit of it. He’s the best neo-lib propagandist out there. He baits the audience with real conservatism, keeps his audience with the good mix of anti-Dem negotiation tactics (explanation, humor, etc.), and then gets people to NOT vote for conservatives by convincing people that they have no other choice than to vote for a neo-lib.

He’s a great bait and switcher.

    Idiot? Hardly.

I do wish he’d pay more attention to his health. Being out of shape probably contributes a lot to his back problems (and subsequent drug addiction). He definately needs to learns from Tim Russert’s unexpected demise.

  15. Jason Wright, Editor on 03.07.2008 at 11:13 (Reply)

You can’t read this thread without smiling. Some complain about Patrick’s post, then it generates more comments and lively debate than any post in quite a while.

It’s true there are times I read Patrick’s posts and want to gouge his eyes out, but he’s a good writer who inspires debate and isn’t as knee-jerk liberal as most. What’s not to love?
