Yes, the race for 2012 has begun…

Paul to end campaign

Posted on June 12th, 2008 at 6:47 pm by David Kaiser, Editor

Ron Paul will end his run for the White House tonight, finally saying goodbye to one of the more interesting campaigns in recent memory. Paul had a lot more money than many of his rivals, yet had a hard time cracking more than single digits in most of the primaries.

I know that somewhere, Lazlo is crying.

Most of Ron Paul’s supporters aren’t going to go to McCain…particularly because of the Iraq war issue and his continued dumb comments about it like on the Today Show.

They also aren’t likely to go to Obama; although the hardest core get out of Iraq supporters could becuase of his position on Iraq, including like Paul being against it from the start.

This leaves staying home or going to Bob Barr. Neither is good for McCain.

Paul has a solid 5%-6% of the GOP. Barr has about 1-2% at present. If Barr can get 5-7% of the vote, this kills McCain just on the numbers.

His camp is dismissing Barr completely; which is a mistake. COmbine some Paul supporters with traditional Libertarians and some evangelicals (Barr’s base)…and it could easily add up to 5-8%. If so, McCain is toast just on the numbers barring (pun intended) an Obama implosion.

I have to agree Dom, I think Barr is the same as Nader/Buchanan in 2000.

They could very well be a killer.

Yes, forgot to mention the PB factor as well.

If he wants, Paul could swing lots of cash barr’s way as well.

By no means is McCain my first (or second, or third, or…) choice, but there is no way that I will be party to the election of a leftist like Obama.

This may be out of left field (pun only slightly intended), but the analogy seems to fit:

What if, instead of this being about helping your country choose a president, it was about helping your daughter decide which of three guys to marry (like she’s really gonna ask your opinion, right?)?

If she was totally opposed to your favorite (let’s say for the sake of the story that he is a rich doctor). That leaves two other guys. You’re not crazy about either one, but you definitely know that one is worse for her than the other. Do you encourage her to marry the “bad” one (let’s say…that he is a slick young smooth talker)just to TEACH HER A LESSON for going against your judgement on the doctor? Thinking that, while this marriage will be a disaster, at least she’ll know better NEXT time?
Of course not. If you wouldn’t do that to your DAUGHTER (whom you love), why would you do that to your COUNTRY?

(told you that the analogy was a little odd…)

Obama…McCain…what’s the difference? Obama, supposedly an antiwar candidate, is committed to the same rhetoric, the same propaganda, and the same aggressive intentions toward Iran as the Bush administration. They both will continue to go against both conservative foreign and conservative domestic policy. So…yawn…to the Obama-hate. If you hate Obama, then you must hate McCain.

And voting for Ron Paul is not ’sending a message’…not ‘teaching the GOP a lesson’. That message was sent over a year ago. Voting for Ron Paul is our modern Declaration of Independence…our letter of resignation to the MSM. No more will we fall for the switch and bait tactics of talking the conservative talk rhetoric and then pushing a non-conservative via propaganda.

At some point, most of you will stop comprimising and letting yourself be fooled too.

What ever happened to Ron Paul or Hillary?

      To your marriage scenario:

The choice of my daughter is really:

-have my daughter marry one of two losers in a pre-arranged marriage. The loser family offers two choices

      -be free

I would advise my daughter to be free…not to marry either one.

Exactly my point. Our country can’t choose to NOT have a president - we WILL have one.

I know that you don’t see a difference in the two on foreign affairs. But, can’t you at least concede that there will be a WORLD of difference in the SCOTUS nominees which are sure to come this term?
THAT ALONE should be reason enough…oh, nevermind.

Have known many fathers who “chose” the wrong guy for their daughters as well. The father’s who encouraged their daughters to marry Warren Jeffs come to mind.

But you are right Gary…is an odd analogu…LOL.

I’ve told you for months I refuse to vote for the Democrat or McCain. The choice is Liberal vs Liberal-lite. I reject those choices.

I was voting LP before Barr got the nod so I like the fact that I have someone I can feel good about voting for.

Think of it like this. If this means Obama gets elected then I’ve done the GOP a service.

After election day you can almost be assured that the Democrats will have a big enough majority in Congress to push their agenda. Who would you rather have in the White House when all the policies go to Hell? A Republican that they can lay the blame on or one of their own that the GOP can rally against and perhaps come to their collective senses about getting back to acting like Republicans?
