If you ever wonder what happens when a candidate starts to believe his/her own press, you need look no further than Barack Obama’s victory speech tonight. Via NRO’s Campaign Spot I bring you the following quote:

We will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth.

So, let me get this straight. Obama just made the mother of all campaign promises in that he promised to stop the rise of the oceans and heal the planet?

It’s one thing for the masses to believe a presidential candidate has powers normally reserved for the Almighty. It’s something entirely different when the candidate begins to believe it as well.

Barack Obama may be many things, but the “last, best hope on Earth” he is most definitely not.
