Governor Bill Richardson has endorsed Barack Obama in the race for the Democratic nomination. In an email sent to his supporters, Richardson acknowledged his past relationship with the Clintons, and praised both candidates:

We are blessed to have two great American leaders and great Democrats running for President. My affection and admiration for Hillary Clinton and President Bill Clinton will never waver. It is time, however, for Democrats to stop fighting amongst ourselves and to prepare for the tough fight we will face against John McCain in the fall. The 1990′s were a decade of peace and prosperity because of the competent and enlightened leadership of the Clinton administration, but it is now time for a new generation of leadership to lead America forward. Barack Obama will be a historic and a great President, who can bring us the change we so desperately need by bringing us together as a nation here at home and with our allies abroad.

And no, he didn’t beg for the VP slot in his email.

This is a really, really important endorsement, given all of the Hispanics in Pennsylvania, Indiana, South Dakota, Montana, and North Carolina.

By the way, don’t you just love how we put Richardson into a little box, assuming that the only people that he could possibly sway are Hispanics? As if there’s nothing else noteworthy about the man?

      • Brian H

Too funny Alex. Hard to put Richardson in any other box, isn’t it? I will answer your question with a question. Is there nothing else noteworthy about the man?

My wife is hispanic and I can guarantee that she has absolutely NO CLUE who Bill Richardson is.

Hey!! I like the beard though. Must be going for the Che crowd vote.

Unless I’m a political junkie, I do not equate the name Richardson with Hispanic. Most of the country are not freaks like us, so they’re not going to catch the nuance of a hispanic influence from the guy unless they already are exposed to him and have something of note to remember him by. There’s just way too much coming at people these days–it’s info overload–for people to 1) remember who he is, and 2) that he can bring the Hispanic vote into play. He’s just not that obvious to people.

Maybe if he changed his name to Guillermo Ricardo.

“Bill Who?” asks the short-term focused, amnesia-addled Obama crowd…

  • Whodat in Texas

Has anyone interviewed Richardson’s supporters? Will they both follow his lead to Obama?

Whodat don’t even have to take his shoes off to count the impact

The dems are killing each other. It was pretty much a slam dunk for Obama but obviously Dems don’t vet thier canidates very carefully. Otherwise someone would have pulled Obama aside and told him figure out a solution to this Wright problem. Now Obama comes off as two-faced.

Expect him to lose fairly big in the next few primaries.
Expect there to be a dead heat right up to the convention.

Expect the Super Delegates to switch sides and pick Hillary over Obama.

Expect riots outside the convention just like 1968.

Expect McCain to take the oath Jan 20th.

I say no chance Obama picks Richardson. He’s not going to go minority or woman. He’s going to go safe with a white male. Bank on it.

Richardson may well be Obama’s VP- and its a winning ticket

    • Brian H

Please Toby. You believe any ticket with the name Obama on it is a winning ticket. Richardson is a bafoon.

      • East-of-Eden

Being a resident of New Mexico, and living in the Kingdom of Richardson, I can say, he is a bafoon! If Obama wants him, he can have him, and then we can get back to living our lives.

  • Troy La Mana

It translates to, “I know I was such a putz before but please, please, PLEASE, pick me as VP!!!”

A Richardson endorsement and $6.00 (at Starbucks) will get you a cup of coffee.

Obama “can bring us the change we so desperately need by bringing us together as a nation”. Someone please explain to me what that means.
