In a previous post, I asked if we should start the Power Rankings for a McCain VP, so here is my first stab at a possible choice.

I was chatting with a friend the other night and he threw out a name he had heard as a potential VP for McCain that didn’t strike me at first. But then I did some digging and suddenly the name made a lot of sense.

What’s the name you ask?

Tom Ridge.

Ridge was a very popular two-term former governor of Pennsylvania, and he earned the largest margin of victory a GOP candidate has ever garnered there. His presence on the ticket could put the Keystone State in play.

Ridge is no stranger to Washington either. He was rumored to be on the short list to be Dubbya’s VP in 2000, as well as rumored to be a candidate for Secretary of Defense for Bush and later came to DC in the wake of 9/11 to become the first ever Homeland Security Secretary.

He’s a Vietnam vet, a Roman Catholic, is opposed to gay marriage but is pro-choice.

Geographically, it balances the ticket.

Oh yah, there is one more thing.

Tom Ridge is currently a senior aide for the McCain campaign.

Very, very interesting.
