I would love to support the candidate with the best sense of humor (Huck), and can tolerate the Christendom slant. Problem is, Huck has gone to the pander card, thus losing his authenticity. When they hit him with the "You raised taxes" charge, he coulda said "You guys just like to borrow against your grandkids" and "We really needed an infrastructure makeover, and the voters loved it."

But now he's on the no-amnesty/cut taxes bandwagon...he's totally lost his authenticity.

He should withdraw and back McCain (he hates Romney), thus anointing a putative nominee.

Dear Ethan,

I think you know that your reporting on Huckabee's speech is spun terribly to make him look worse than he is. Huckabee campaigns well and answers questions clearly when asked, but it is hard to defend himself from all the commentators who slander him. Huckabee does not play up his beginning as a Baptist pastor nearly as much as bloggers and other political junkies do.

So yes, if given the chance, Huckabee could win an election over a Democrat.

I am amazed at the antagonism against Christians on the blogosphere, not only on this site.

Ethan, I've read the link and postings, and what Huck said was nothing unusual (the article even says it) concerning a human life amendment which he and other conservatives and evangelicals have called for. And if the man is speaking in a religious setting with people who affirm the same sentiment, then he is going to say it strongly. Duhh...

Really Ethan--the guy is a social conservative, so things like abortion (and gay marriage, etc) will be clearly attacked as something to change. He, and the position he takes, is actually more mainstream than you give credit for. This is really a non-story. But if you have a personal axe to grind, then anything that sets you off, you're going to jump on. It's transparent.

Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I say your posting is crapola. So don't try the same maneuver on Huck. And knock off the "Jesus juice" slams. I don't go around callings atheists and agnostics a-holes because they don't have the same world view as I do.

I read The Handmaiden's Tale too, and let's just say I could have used it to line my cats' litterboxes.

I have been a Huck supporter, but after his South Carolina loss, I no longer feel that he is a formidable candidate. I am also a Christian, and I resent your "Jesus juice" comments Ethan. Jesus died for the sins of all who would place their faith in Him. He loves you Ethan, whether you love Him or not. Also, abortion is not a right granted to women to govern what happens to their own bodies. Abortion is a right given to women to end the life of their unborn child(ren)--a right that should be granted to no one.

Well said, Ethan. Is there anyone on this site who still believes Huckabee would be a formidable general election candidate?
