Barry’s last post combined with seeing an article on The Politico sparked me to write a little about money as well.

The GOP is getting owned by the Dems in fundraising, and much of this is due to big business moving support from the Republicans to the Democrats.

Here is a scary assessment of how money from financial service firms’ political action committees has shifted in the last several years:

In the first nine months of 2003, the top 25 financial services political action committees donated $6.8 million to members of Congress. Of that, 38 percent went to Democrats and 62 percent to Republicans, according to an analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics, done at the request of Politico.

During the same three-quarter period in 2005, those percentages were roughly the same.

Between January and August of this year, the financial services committees donated $8.6 million — 51 percent went to Democrats and 49 percent to Republicans.

To be blunt, the Democrats are opening a can of WhoopAss(tm) on the Republicans among a sector that was once a defined member of their constituency.
