Ron Paul generates $1 million online in a week
Posted on September 30th, 2007 at 10:27 am by Ethan BoivieNot only has Congressman Ron Paul’s “Internet only” phenomenon crossed into impressive straw poll showings, but real dollars are being generated as well. After passing John McCain for cash on hand last quarter, the campaign has just reached a similarly impressive milestone. A call for $500k in online donations for the last week of the quarter resulted in contributions totaling over $1 million, meaning Paul has raised close to $3 million in the 3rd quarter. Paul’s libertarian message of eliminating the income tax, ending the wars in Iraq and on drugs, and increasing personal freedoms seems to keep spreading. The Ron Paul snowball is gaining momentum.

Go Dr Paul. This Country needs a doctor not a CFR sellout attorney.
I think the most noteworthy aspect of this is that John Edwards had the same goal ($1M) over 10 days, ending at the same time as Ron Paul’s drive, and even with the 3 day head start fell behind. From a purely monetary perspective, I think this means that Ron Paul is firmly in the first tier, or that John Edwards is no longer, and were down to a two horse race for the Democratic nomination.
I would be interested in seeing the total number of donations (and thus an average amount per donation). I think supporters of Paul are more likely to donate than supporters of top-tier candidates because there is much less of an impression that Paul would get high dollar donations from special interests. Of course, maybe he just has 10-20 supporters who are using thousands of stolen credit cards.
Shocking, is it not?
A politician who actually speaks
Of tough measures for tough
Times in the office which he seeks?
I’m no Libertarian, so Dr. No
Ain’t really my type…
But, I gotta admit, Ron Paul has
Real substance, not just hype.
Too many years we conservatives
Rated pols on what they SAID -
Then, were disapponted when the
Pol did the opposite, instead.
Like “W” (Stands for “Worst”)
Opens borders to all AND trucks,
He spends $$$ like a drunk sailor;
As a “conservative”, he run amock!
So, why the heck not Paul?!
His honesty is like fresh air:
It might bring in some strange pollen,
But, you’re glad that it is there.

LOL…you guys are cracking me up.
I, and many people, give routinely…and I gave extra for that drive. Indeed, the snowball *is* picking up.
Last quarter RP raised $2.4 million and he’ll (despite summer usually being a drag quarter) easily beat that. Remember most RP supporters didn’t even know RP existed until the televised debates which were well into Q2. So for Q3, they had more time to donate…not to mention more people. And RP really focused on fundraising this quarter. There were several six-figure successes. This $1 million drive was just the latest. Conservatively, I’d put the Q3 number around $4 million (which doesn’t seem like much compared to others, but RP really doesn’t have to spend very much with his internet/street (FREE) publicity). The Q3 number could be much larger though. I hope for $7 million which would put his total around $10 million.
Whodat said that?
Stand tall
with the good Dr. Paul?
Revolution in the air
Vote for change
if you dare -
The question remains if this is a cult of personality or a movement. Even though Goldwater lost in 64, enough people got their heads turn to start a movement.
I’m hoping it becomes the latter. That no matter what happens, more freedom-loving candidates spring forth in future elections and it becomes the norm to do so.
Congrats on hitting 1.2 million. This should put the “fear factor” in “spare the child, fry the crook” Huckabee.
It should put the “fear factor” in every other candidate- 1.2 million dollars in one week?! After all, this is the crazy old guy that resembles Gandalf from Lord of the Rings and is suposed to be about as electable as Ralph Nader or Dick Cheney.
And the donations were from regular people, not a bunch of special interest groups.
Definitely not a cult of personality. It’s of cult of those who want power back to the people (a bottom-up rather than top-down). A movement that only candidates who don’t pretend (or believe) to know what’s best for your life can run on. Is there any other candidate running who supports this?
