Gov. Richardson smokes out an issue for the campaign trail
Posted on April 4th, 2007 at 12:44 pm by Contributor ArchivePresidential candidate Gov. Bill Richardson (remember him!) has kindly given well coiffed political debate moderators everywhere their first domestic issue topic for the Democratic primary race. In a bill signed into law by Gov Richardson on Monday New Mexico doctors are now allowed to prescribe medicinal marijuana for seriously ill patients in order to help manage their symptoms. It’s also worth noting he’s made an influential policy decision for his state.
This is where the Governors have a leg up on the Senators in a presidential race. Richardson and the like can make, then point to, legislative decisions without it sounding too much like cooked up verbal algebra. And I hated verbal algebra class in college. It took me like two bong hits to make it through those three hours.
Now if Bill can just raise another $19 million he’ll be right in the thick of the fox hunt (no pun intended).
